Crews from Fayetteville and Manlius stations were dispatched at 10:32 AM on Sunday Aug.9th, 2009 for a plane crash at 4520 Palmer Road in the Town of Manlius. Fayetteville engine 7 responded with FF/EMT-P Buyea as the officer. Fayetteville ambulance A-1 also responded. The crew from station 20 arrived shortly after Manlius and staged on the front lawn area of the incident. Manlius Car 1 (Whorall) acted as Incident Commander and Car 2 (Bennett) ground operations. Shortly after arrival the Fayetteville personnel were assigned to combination rescue/medical detail involving extrication of a patient from an overturned ultralight type aircraft. Terrain and landscape hindered the access to the scene. The patient was assessed by both departments EMS people and packaged in the field to be carried out to the staging area. Crews then brought the patient to the awaiting State Police medi-vac helicopter for transport to local area trauma center. Manlius crews also treated and packaged a second patient and transported them by Manlius ambulance. Fire police from both departments controlled traffic and secured the access to the scene due to heavy onlookers and media. Town of Manlius police were on hand to aid in the operations as well as handle investigation.
